Sisters from the Book

Earth of the desert
Fire in a bush that doesn’t burn up
Water of the Red Sea
Wind tempests
In the frame of a primitive and ruthless nature, among elements filled with Holy Spirit and Destiny, thousands of female voices follow the steps of thousands marching feet.
They tell stories, they cry, they sigh, they whisper.
Queens and slaves, wives, mothers, partners and murderers.
From the most thrilling, moving and ancient story of love, war ,holiness, power, violence and sex that for thousands of years had been told, before ever been written.
There is a time for everything.
There’s a time for everything that is done on earth.
There is a time to be born.
And there’s a time to die.
There is a time to plant.
And there’s a time to pull up what is planted.
There is a time to kill.
And there’s a time to heal.
There is a time to tear down.
And there’s a time to build up.
There is a time to cry.
And there’s a time to laugh.
There is a time to be sad.
And there’s a time to dance.
There is a time to scatter stones.
And there’s a time to gather them.
There is a time to hug.
And there’s a time not to hug.
There is a time to search.
And there’s a time to stop searching.
There is a time to keep.
And there’s a time to throw away.
There is a time to tear.
And there’s a time to mend.
There is a time to be silent.
And there’s a time to speak.
There is a time to love.
And there’s a time to hate.
There is a time for war.
And there’s a time for peace
In its fourth year of study and research about storytelling tradition and renaissance, Raccontamiunastoria Storytelling Company has decided to focus its next production on the most fascinating and old collection of stories belonging to our culture and tradition: The Bible.
“Sisters from the Book” ideally follows the steps of “Mary, a story of three women”, the first and very successful production of the Company based on the stories of women in the Gospel. ”This new project, in line with the main interest of the Company always focusing on women studies, also aims to be a mean of meditation and discovery of the common roots of the three biggest monotheistic cultures and religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam.
This projects wants to set itself as a banner of peace in a time of wars.
The show will initially see a cast of four storytellers and one musician.
According to the tradition of oral storytelling, the show will be developed in several different versions, and will consist in a collection of stories to be performed in one or two evenings.
The company will initially focus on the stories of Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba: all of them Jesus’ and our foremothers, and then will carry on with the stories of Sarah (Jewishs’ and Christians’ great matriarch ) and Hagar (Muslims’ great matriarch), both wives to Abraham.
Along with the Italian version, the Company is producing an English version of the show, in order to take it abroad in any venue that might be interested and to perform it at International Storytelling Festivals.
At any time during its tour, the Company would be happy to welcome into the show local tellers of any tradition, religion and denomination rooted in the Sacred Book.
